ELCA Synod Assembly Season
Well, it's Synod Assembly season. It started back on April 16th with the Texas-Louisiana Gulf Coast Synod and ends July 12 with the Slovak Zion Synod (the Slovak Zion Synod is mission based rather than geographically based). I'll be at the South Dakota Synod Assembly June 11th and 12th.
I'm excited to use this gathering of South Dakota ELCA Lutherans to get back into blog mode (not that I was ever really in a regular posting rhythm to begin with). There will be discussion, voting, fellowship and probably some arguing. My previous experience was fun, informative and frustrating - I loved it.
I'm going to write a pre-Assembly post, live blog during the event, post a reflection for each of the nights and write a wrap-up once I'm back in Brookings. Hopefully it will keep First Lutheran Church in Brookings connected with the events of the weekend and generate some interest in the congregation about our relationship with other congregations in the synod and the South Dakota Synod itself.
Basically, I'm getting pretty excited - despite being sometimes frustrating, I look forward to the opportunity to encounter new people, have some discussions and enjoy the scenery in Rapid City. And as an inconsistent blogger, I look forward to the opportunity it provides to nudge me into my writing. Look for my pre-Assembly post next week!

I look forward to hear what you have to say about your synod assembly. I have experienced 5 different assembly's in my lifetime (only one synod as a pastor). There is nothing like it!! I am currently serving in the Upstate NY Synod.

The one I went to previously was in 1999 (when our synod voted on our opinion about CCM) the summer before my senior year. I also enjoyed it very much. I don't mind getting down with a little parliamentary procedure while talking about churchy stuff
